Beppu, Oita, Japan

 

A collaborative exhibition with a poet, Tohko Satonaka.

"What would you bring if you can choose one thing in the moment of natural disaster (excluding living things, evacuation goods, monetary items such as cash, bank cards etc)?"

"What’s the story behind the object?"

"What intangible thing would you like to leave when you are no longer on the earth?"

"When and how do you think “the value” of things are determined?"

"Why are you here (Beppu) now out of all places? Would you leave Beppu in the future?"

The artists asked these five questions to the people that they had met in Beppu, Japan while they lived there. Nakano took their polaroid portraitures with what they had chosen.

The exhibition questions the undefined concept of worth and value for each person while we all experienced the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, and tries to widen our acceptance of the philosophy and perspective of diverse people in the mixed culture port town, Beppu.

価値の多様性が表出する五つの質問を別府で暮らす「隣人」に問いかけ、彼らと大事なものをポラロイドで撮影した。

別府駅市馬内ではインタビューの行程を経て里中透子の制作した詩と共に展示。
